Apple Event recap (2022):
Apple unveiled the new iPhone 14 at its Far Out Keynote on Wednesday, September 7, and it didn’t stop at these flagships… It also lifted the veil on three new Apple Watches and second-generation AirPods Pro. Here’s everything you need to know.
When was the September Apple Keynote?
Invitations were sent out on August 24 and the Apple event finally took place this Wednesday, September 7.
This is an earlier date than the previous Keynote we were used to from Apple, last year, for example, the event was held on Tuesday, September 14.
The Apple event started at 10 am in California. Here is what this means for other areas of the world:
- Canada: 10am (PDT), 11am (MDT), 12pm (CDT), 1pm (EDT), 2pm (ADT)
- India: 10:30 pm (IST)
- Singapore and China: The next day at 1:00 am
- Australia: The next day at 1 am (AWST), 2:30 am (ACST), 3 am (AEST)
- New Zealand: Next day at 5 am (NZST)
Apple’s September events usually last between one and two hours.

The iPhone 14 Pro lineup was, without a doubt, the star of the Keynote, but the new products shown alongside it have nothing to be ashamed of, or even the iOS 16 and watchOS 9 operating systems for that matter.
As for iPadOS 16, which is usually released at the same time as iOS, it will be launched at a later date.
iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro
Four new iPhones have been introduced again this year, but the lineup is a bit different from the last few generations, especially with the disappearance of the iPhone mini and the integration of a new, larger model in its place. The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus starts at $799 whereas iPhone 14 Pro will start at $999, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max model starts at $1099.
As usual, it’s the Pro versions that have benefited from the majority of the new features.
- iPhone 14: 6.1-inch screen with a notch, slightly improved A15 chip.
- iPhone 14 Plus: 6.7-inch screen with a notch, slightly improved A15 chip.
- iPhone 14 Pro: 6.1-inch screen with a redesigned notch, permanent display, 48 Mp sensor, A16 Bionic processor.
- iPhone 14 Pro Max: 6.7-inch screen with a redesigned notch, permanent display, 48 Mp sensor, A16 Bionic processor.
Apple Watch Series 8, Pro, and SE 2
More than one Apple Watch was in the works at Apple. Rumors point to three new watches: an Apple Watch 8, an Apple Watch SE 2, and an Apple Watch Ultra with even more advanced features.
Apple Watch 8
The Apple Watch Series 8 has the same design, same size (41 mm and 45 mm) but an S8 chip, this time with a feature to monitor your temperature and alert you in case of a car accident. The Apple Watch Series 8 is priced at $399 for the aluminum model and $499 for the cellular connectivity model.
Apple Watch SE 2
The Apple Watch SE 2 has a size of 40 mm or 44 mm while embedding an optical heart sensor, ECG, an always-on screen, and an S8 chip. Apple Watch SE 2 starts at $249.
Apple Watch Ultra
The Apple Watch Ultra has a new 50mm size, a larger screen, a new button, and a titanium case. It is priced at $799.
On the experience side, it will give you some improved tracking for extreme sports enthusiasts and better battery life.
AirPods Pro
The third-generation AirPods were updated last September, bringing them closer than ever to the three-year-old AirPods Pro. So it was high time Apple released the new AirPods Pro 2.
They feature shorter, tactile stems, longer battery life, and Spatial Audio support, not to mention improvements in Active Noise Reduction technology. AirPods Pro is priced at a cost of $249.

Launch of pre-orders for the iPhone, AirPods, and Apple Watch 2022.
Monday, Sept. 12
Start of iOS 16 downloads. Last year, iOS 15 was available the day after the Keynote. However, in previous years, the wait has been long.
Friday, September 16th
The release date for iPhone 14 and Apple Watch.
Even with all these potential launches, Apple won’t be done for the year. There will most likely be an event in October where we will see new Macs and iPads released, as well as iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura.
