Similar to its bigger counterpart, the HomePod Mini comes with a functional fabric exterior available in both black and white hues. Additionally, it also features a small display on the top that showcases the Siri waveform. However, the HomePod Mini has a more compact, circular design compared to the original model’s oval shape.
Upon its release in 2018, the HomePod was considered a pricey smart speaker option at $349 compared to competitors like Amazon’s Echo or Google Home.
Moreover, the original HomePod had limitations as it only worked with Apple Music, and Apple has only recently addressed this issue with the release of iOS 14. While Apple has since lowered the price of the first HomePod to $199, it still remains expensive.
The new HomePod Mini aims to change this by providing similar features at a more reasonable price point, offering users a more accessible way to incorporate Siri and Apple Music into their smart homes.
As a central hub for HomeKit devices, the HomePod Mini expands Apple’s presence in the smart home market and allows users to control various devices even when they are away from home.
