Best Slim and Lightweight Laptops For Everyone!
Ultraportable laptops and hybrids are the go-to devices for people who want a powerful, stylish, and lightweight computer that can last an entire day on a single charge. These machines are compact yet offer excellent performance for everyday tasks, and many come with touchscreens that allow users to interact with them using either a stylus or their fingers.
However, with so many models available from different manufacturers, choosing the right one can be daunting, especially given the vast price range that these devices come in. To make your decision-making process easier, we have rigorously tested and ranked the top five ultraportables based on their design, performance, equipment, ease of use, and battery life. So, whether you’re looking for a budget-friendly option or willing to splurge, our ranking has got you covered.
As expected, the top five ultraportables on our list are high-end machines, with prices ranging from around $1200 to over $2400. However, the rankings have been shaken up by the arrival of new models, such as the Apple MacBook Pro and MacBook Air with ARM processors, and the latest version of the Dell XPS 13, all equipped with the latest 11th generation Intel Core processors.
Despite the ongoing crisis, brands have been able to replenish their stocks, resulting in the gradual renewal of the best lightweight laptops for business. The Honor MagicBook, which was previously among the top 10 ultraportables, has now dropped to twelfth place, but it remains a reliable and affordable option for those looking for a well-made 14-inch laptop. It’s worth noting that the Honor MagicBook is essentially a carbon copy of the Huawei Matebook D 14 2020.
Huawei also features in our current ranking, with the expensive MateBook Pro X in eleventh place and the more affordable MateBook 13 in nineteenth place.
Even the latest ultraportables face tough competition, as seen with the Asus VivoBook S14 (S433FL), which received a score of 7.1/10 and now sits in sixteenth place on our list.
If you’re still on the hunt for your dream computer or want more options, be sure to check out our comprehensive comparison of all the models we’ve tested and are still available for purchase.
For those who prioritize battery life above all else, we offer a ranking solely focused on this criterion. However, even this ranking has been shaken up by the arrival of the new MacBooks, causing the HP Elite Dragonfly – a previous leader in the standings – to slip.
In addition, our ultraportable buying guide provides all the information you need to choose the model that best suits your needs.
Here Are the Top 5 Best Slim and Lightweight Laptops For Everyone:
Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 (FHD)
The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 2019 Edition has dropped two spots in our ranking. Surprisingly, the Full HD + version outperforms its 4K counterpart in terms of battery life and overall performance, despite having the same components. This makes the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 2019-2020 Full HD + a great choice for those looking for an ultraportable, slim and lightweight laptop with long-lasting battery life and other impressive features.
Dell has now upgraded its 2-in-1 XPS 13 to the latest 11th generation Intel Core processors. However, the previous model is still available on the website, but stocks are limited. So if you’re interested in this highly-regarded ultraportable, don’t wait too long to make your purchase!
Apple MacBook Pro 13 inch M1
Our laboratory had the opportunity to test the first model of MacBook Pro equipped with Apple Silicon chip and we were amazed by its outstanding performance, making it a strong contender for the top spot in our ultraportable, slim and lightweight laptop ranking.
Not only does it represent the future of ultraportables crafted by Apple, but it also boasts an impressive battery life that is hard to beat. With countless advantages, it is a great alternative to its Intel-based cousin and a testament to the excellence of Apple’s innovative technology.
Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Ryzen 7
The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7, equipped with a recent AMD processor, is the first of its kind to make it to our Top 5 ultraportable PC list. Unlike its 2-in-1 predecessors, this model breaks the mold and proves that Lenovo is willing to push boundaries and promote AMD technology.
Our team was thoroughly impressed with this machine and we highly recommend checking out our full review. It can often be found online for around $1,200 USD.
Dell XPS 13
The Dell XPS 13 is back in winter 2020 with a new version equipped with the latest 11th generation Intel Core processors, and it’s as impressive as ever. The XPS 13 is now tied with the latest MacBook Pro, and even outperforms the previous version of the XPS 13. However, it can’t quite beat the MacBook Air with the ARM M1 chip. The XPS 13’s endurance is once again noteworthy, thanks to the performance of the Intel chips. Its Full HD + screen maintains a good level of quality, although there are some minor colorimetry issues.
Apple MacBook Air M1
After a long reign, the Dell XPS 13 has finally been dethroned from its title as the best ultraportable, slim and lightweight laptop. The crown now belongs to Apple’s latest MacBook Air M1, which impressively combines power, mobility, and endurance. The MacBook Air M1 is reminiscent of the original MacBook Air which once dominated the market and now poses a new challenge for PC competitors.
It remains to be seen if any other manufacturer can rise to the occasion and compete with Apple’s latest offering.
